Performance Management
Central Ohio Technical College and The Ohio State University at Newark are committed to staff development and believe that the performance appraisal process is an integral part of that development. This process is designed to improve job understanding, promote more effective job performance, and establish future goals for career growth.
The goal of the Performance Management program is to provide staff members with feedback on their performance and accomplishments for the previous year. This program should also assist staff members in understanding their job responsibilities and supervisor's performance expectations. Performance goals for the upcoming year and specific plans to help staff members meet those goals should also be established through this process.
Forms and materials used in the Performance Management Program are listed below along with brief descriptions:
Conducting Effective Performance Reviews - This guidebook is designed to assist supervisors in preparing the Performance Review form. This guidebook will also assist you in identifying important points that should be considered and included in your performance discussion with the staff member.

Also, prior to completing the reviews, please check with your cabinet member to discuss how he/she would like to be involved in the review process of your employees. The Completed reviews should be discussed with the staff member, signed by the supervisor/manager and staff member and forwarded to the office of human resources by July, 11, 2008.
Performance Review Checklist (Optional) - This checklist provides an overview of items that supervisors and employees should complete to prepare for the performance review.
Self Evaluation Form (Optional) - The Self Evaluation form provides the staff member with the opportunity to provide his/her perspective regarding performance during the appraisal period. This form also prepares the staff member for a participatory discussion with the supervisor about his/her performance.
