Students in the undergraduate program seeking licensure in Middle Childhood Education complete the B.S.Ed. and choose at least two areas of concentration from among math, science, social studies, and reading/language arts. These students may also take the undergraduate courses needed for a Middle Childhood Generalist Endorsement, which allows license holders in middle childhood to teach across the curriculum in grades 4 through 6. The B.S.Ed. includes the pre-requisites for Middle Childhood licensure, available at the master's level at Ohio State Newark in the Middle Childhood M.Ed.
The B.S.Ed. prepares students for a variety of work opportunities and includes coursework from a range of disciplines. Students choose a specialty and also develop basic knowledge of the teaching process. This combination of specific skills and general knowledge makes Ohio State Newark’s College of Education and Human Ecology graduates versatile and marketable.
