Welcome to TAPROOT
Welcome to the online version of Taproot, the interdisciplinary student and alumni journal of The Ohio State University at Newark. This year marks the fifth anniversary of Taproot and the second of Taproot Online. As always, the journal features student and alumni-created academic essays, fiction and creative non-fiction, photography, artwork, and poetry. The expanded online version features more creative texts, full-color art, and multimedia submissions.
We hope you enjoy the following cross-section of texts within the journal, several of which have won university prizes. We invite Ohio State Newark students and alumni to submit their work from any class or any individual/group creative endeavor for publication in Taproot. Send all text (in Word), high quality jpegs of artwork, and music/video work (digital only) to taprootproject@gmail.com. You many submit your work at any time before February 10, 2010; the next print and online volume will be released in May 2010.
The editorial board for the journal this year included Ohio State Newark students Jim Cannon, Sara Davisson, Terry Gomes, Mackenzie Kirkpatrick, Kristy Lippert, Briana Malaska, Keari Nickells, Jocelyn Probasco, Michael Reimer, Kristen Rocca, Elyn Tibbs; returning Taprooter Ashley Caggiano and served as editorial advisor. Lee Waller was our moral support. Dr. Elizabeth Weiser returned as professor of record and faculty advisor to the journal. Next year, the Taproot saga will continue to evolve with a brand new set of students in the winter quarter class of English 662 Literary Publishing. Members of this class learn about the history and theory of print and digital publishing and then practice hands-on production from start to finish of volume five of Taproot. Upon successful completion of the course they can rightfully add “Editorial Associate” to their resume. For information, contact Dr. Weiser at weiser.23@osu.edu.
Thanks as well to the campus IT department, particularly Jonathan Holmes, for their invaluable help with Taproot Online.
Taproot: it’s your journal. Enjoy it.
