His research interests include the interaction of Southern civilians and Northern soldiers during the American Civil War and Ohio history. He currently serves as the historical editor and head of the editorial board of Ohio History Central, the Ohio Historical Society's on-line encyclopedia of Ohio history. Dr. Mangus also serves as faculty advisor of The History Club of the Newark Campus and of Students for the Preservation of the Newark Earthworks.
