Sharad Thakkar, Ph.D. - Chair

Initial Appointment – 3 years (July 1, 2012 - June 30, 2015)
Reappointment – 3 years (July 1, 2015 - June 30, 2018)

Sharad Thakkar, received a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Kent State University (Kent, OH), a B.S. in chemical engineering from University of Bombay (Mumbai, India), and a B.S. in chemistry from Sardar Patel University (Vallabh VIdyanangar, India).

Dr. Thakkar is the president and co-owner of Polymer Technologies and Services, Inc. in Heath, OH. His primary business goal there is to recycle all types of plastics to put back into the domestic market, "thereby keeping jobs in the United States," and "keeping America green."

Dr. Thakkar has served as president and board member of the honors program for high school seniors as well as treasurer for Gujarati samaj in Dayton, OH.

Katheryn M. Lloyd - Vice Chair

Initial Appointment – 1 year (July 1, 2014 - June 30, 2015)
Reappointment – 3 years (July 1, 2015 - June 30, 2018)

Katheryn M. Lloyd joined The Ohio State University at Newark Board in 2014. Ms. Lloyd is a partner with the law firm of Carpenter Lipps & Leland LLP and has experience in all aspects of commercial litigation in state and federal courts. Ms. Lloyd graduated summa cum laude from The Ohio State University in 1999 and earned her law degree from Duke University School of Law where she graduated magna cum laude in 2002.

Ms. Lloyd is active in the Columbus Bar Association as the Chair of the Federal Court Committee, is a member of the Judicial Screening Committee, and is a past volunteer for the Summer Leader Internship Program, a program designed to give Columbus Public School students exposure to opportunities in the legal profession. She also serves as an adjunct professor in pretrial litigation at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.

Ms. Lloyd is originally from Granville, Ohio, where her family operates one of the oldest riding schools in the state. She continues to be active in the horse industry.


Todd Ware - Secretary

Initial Appointment – 3 years (July 1, 2016 - June 30, 2019)

Todd Ware joined The Ohio State University at Newark Board in 2016. Mr. Ware has served as President and CEO of The Energy Cooperative since January of 2012. He began his career with NGO Development, a subsidiary of National Gas & Oil (NGO). In 1998, Licking Rural Electric acquired NGO and its subsidiaries and began doing business as The Energy Cooperative. Mr. Ware became the Chief Financial Officer ot The Energy Cooperative in 2001.

Mr. Ware serves as a board member of the National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corporation (CFC), representing a four-state area; a board member of Buckeye Power, Incorporated; and serves on the American Gas Association's Leadership Council and Small Company Committee. He is a past president of the Licking County United Way, a member of the Newark Rotary Club, and serves on the Genesis Healthcare Foundation Board in Zanesville. Mr. Ware actively participates in various community volunteer projects; including the United Way Day of Caring, Mid-Ohio Habitat for Humanity, and the Licking Memorial Hospital Golf Gala.

Mr. Ware graduated from The Ohio State University in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.

Marcia W. Downes

Initial Appointment – 3 years (July 1, 2011 - June 30, 2014)
Reappointment – 3 years (July 1, 2014 - June 30, 2017)
Reappointment – 3 years (July 1, 2017 - June 30, 2020)

Marcia W. Downes joined The Ohio State University at Newark Board in 2011. She is the managing director of The Works Museum in Newark, and was the Executive Director of the Newark Campus Development Fund from 1996-2001.
Ms. Downs serves in an advisory role to the Licking County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Her other community involvements include:

  • Newark Rotary Member;
  • Central Ohio Technical College Accreditation Team;
  • Development Council Member, Licking Memorial Health Systems;
  • Licking County Historical Alliance;
  • Executive Committee, Our Futures.

Ms. Downes earned a B.S. in cultural geography from Radford University (Radford, VA) in 1977.

Diane S. DeLawder

Initial Appointment – 3 years (July 1, 2010 - June 30, 2013)
Reappointment – 3 years (July 1, 2013 - June 30, 2016)
Reappointment – 3 years (July 1, 2016 - June 30, 2019)

Diane S. DeLawder received a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from The Ohio State University at Newark and her focus on education has never strayed.

Ms. DeLawder is currently the Executive Director of Newark City Schools College Access Program, A Call to College. As an educator in Lancaster City Schools from 1988-1992, she trained teachers to administer Gesell Developmental Tests for Kindergarten readiness, administered and evaluated student tests and counseled parents. Ms. DeLawder taught the fifth and sixth grades in Licking Valley Schools from 1980 - 1982.

Michael Cantlin

Mr. Cantlin is a 50 year resident of Newark where he currently resides with his wife, Barbara. His community involvement includes:

  • Trustee, The Rock Foundation

Christopher R. Meyer

Initial Appointment – 1 year (July 1, 2011 – June 30, 2012)
Reappointment – 3 years (July 1, 2012 – June 30, 2015)
Reappointment – 3 years (July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2018)

Christopher R. Meyer joined The Ohio State University at Newark Board in 2011. Mr. Meyer is a partner with Reese, Pyle, Drake & Meyer, where he has an active practice representing individuals, businesses, non-profit corporations, and the local healthcare system on a wide variety of matters.

Mr. Meyer graduated summa cum laude from the Honors program at The Ohio State University in 1974, where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He earned his law degree from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 1977.

Active in civic and volunteer activities for many years in the Licking County community, Mr. Meyer is a member of the Newark Rotary Club and the Licking County Chamber of Commerce.

He and his wife Sharman reside in Newark and have three grown children.


Talya Greathouse, MD

Initial Appointment – 3 years (July 1, 2017 - June 30, 2020)

Dr. Talya Greathouse joined The Ohio State University at Newark Board in 2017. She is a Board Certified Family Physician and serves as Chief of Staff of Licking Memorial Hospital and Vice Chair of the Executive Committee. She is a member of the Caduceus Society. Dr. Greathouse holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from The Ohio State University and the Doctor of Medicine degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine.

She was recognized as the Licking County Family Physician of the Year in 2012 and was nominated as the Central Ohio Academy of Family Physician’s Family Physician of the Year in both 2013 and 2014. She is a member of Rotary International, Newark Chapter and serves as the Chair of the Special Needs Committee. Dr. Greathouse is active in the Rotary’s Special Olympics service project and is a Paul Harris Fellow. She is also engaged in community service and volunteers with O.P.T.S. (Our Purpose to Serve) in Columbus, Ohio; and the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.


Matthew R. Miller

Initial Appointment – 3 years (July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2020)

Matthew R. Miller joined The Ohio State University at Newark Board in 2017. He currently serves as Executive Vice President of Park National Corporation, having previously served as Park’s Senior Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer, and earlier as Vice President for Accounting.

Mr. Miller is a graduate of the University of Akron and has participated in a number of strategic leadership programs; including the Community Leadership Program of the Licking County Chamber of Commerce, the Bank Leadership Institute of the Ohio Bankers League, and the Center for Creative Leadership.

Mr. Miller is actively involved in community service and currently serves on the Board of the Licking County Chamber of Commerce, the Next Generation Advisory Board of the Ohio Bankers League, the Development Council of Licking Memorial Health Systems, the Development Council of The Works, and serves as President of the Licking County Family YMCA. Previously he served as Campaign Chair of the United Way of Licking County (2015-2016) and served on the Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Licking and Perry Counties (2009-2015). He is a member of Rotary International, Newark Chapter and serves as Finance Chair of the Centenary United Methodist Church.


Joshua Flickinger - Student Representative

Initial Appointment – 1 year (July 1, 2017 - June 30, 2018)

Joshua Flickinger serves as the Student Representative to the Board and is currently in his second year of studies at The Ohio State University at Newark. Mr. Flickinger is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Leadership with a minor in business. A recipient of the Dean’s Award in 2017, Mr. Flickinger recently participated in a study abroad course which involved travel to Cuba and was a member of the 2016-2017 Buckeye Generation Learning Community. He currently serves as President of the Ohio State Newark Collegiate 4-H Club and serves as a Student Ambassador for Ohio State Newark.

Mr. Flickinger served as the youngest member of the Perry County Housing Coalition’s homeless shelter committee and is active in state 4-H conferences, including teaching sessions on community service, and local and “youth foods.” Within 4-H, he has served as Junior Leaders President and Junior Fair Board Community Service Chair for Perry County, and is a Teen Leadership Council Green Level Member of the Perry County Fair.
