Ohio State Newark Employee Recognized for Dedication and Service

NEWARK, Ohio, Aug. 14, 2017 — The Ohio State University at Newark Admissions Counselor Wesley Grunden was presented the Julius S. and Joette Greenstein Award on Monday, Aug. 14, 2017. The Greenstein Award is presented annually to a regular staff member, administrator or faculty of Ohio State Newark and/or Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) whose efforts, deeds and behavior made a major contribution toward the perpetuation of a genuine spirit of mutual respect and cooperation between Ohio State Newark and COTC.

In demonstration of the spirit of collaboration between the two institutions, Grunden was nominated by COTC Admissions Representative Stacey Cartnal. Grunden coordinated over 30 campus visits for prospective students that included both Ohio State Newark and COTC. These visits promoted the whole campus and fostered unity between the two institutions, said Cartnal.

“The united front that we present to the community has had a positive impact on both institutions,” said Cartnal. “Wes Grunden has played a major role in the development of a team mentality and respect between our two offices.”

As an admissions counselor, Grunden advises prospective students on admissions policies, procedures and requirements. He has been employed at Ohio State Newark for one-and-a-half years. In that short time, he has implemented new ideas for student visits that genuinely show the positive sides of both campuses.

One example, Cartnal said, is their cooperative work with A Call to College, a nonprofit organization that promotes education beyond high school in the Newark City School District. “They wanted more than a typical visit. Wes worked to include both institutions, ensuring that students experienced firsthand what makes both institutions excellent places to begin their academic career. This has amplified our ability to help students, which is the ultimate goal of both institutions.”
