McConnell Hall Groundbreaking
A ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony was held for a new 40,000 square foot Newark campus residence hall, named for William T. and Jane C. McConnell, on Thursday, September 1, 2016. The groundbreaking took place near the construction site which is located behind the current residence hall. The $12.9 million project is funded 100 percent by The Ohio State University. “I’ve been pinching myself,” said Ohio State Newark Dean/Director William L. MacDonald, Ph.D., when he addressed the crowd of faculty, staff, students and community members who attended the ceremony. “The idea for a new residence hall on the Newark campus started in 2005, and we are finally here. It’s an exciting day.” A reception for attendees was held immediately following the ceremony in the John L. and Christine Warner Library and Student Center.
