The Office of Student Life acts as the primary focal point for addressing student needs, issues, and concerns. We also serve as a resource and referral office for all faculty, staff, and students. The Office of Student Life is available for university policy and procedure clarification, confidential consultations, personal and family crisis assistance, and formal academic grievances. Specific role within the Office of Student Life is to oversee and manage all of the multiple functions of the division.

Supervises and oversees the general areas of student development programs for the campus, which include: student activities, multicultural affairs, and athletics. Responsible for the student ambassador program, organizing orientation for both institutions, first year programming, and assisting with judicial services along with other general duties of the Office of Student Life.

Interprets student's diagnostic documentation to determine possible need for academic adjustments and/or accommodations according to ADA and 504 guidelines. Develops policy and procedure in accordance with federal and state regulations using state of the art best practices. Serves as program developer and budget manager of Perkins Grant. Designated 504 coordinator for The Ohio State University at Newark and Central Ohio Technical College; assures compliance and coordinates periodic review audits. Also serves as the Chairperson of Campus Access Committee and member of Diversity Committee.

Help "undecided" students in selecting a major. Assist students in the job search process--resume and cover letter development, job search strategies, interviewing techniques, practice interviews, etc.

The Office of Multi-Cultural Affairs designs and implements educational cultural programs.  These programs create forums for students, staff and faculty to initiate dialogue about local, national and global events relating to diversity in order to share experiences.

Develops, manages and advises student programs/activities, including student clubs, organizations, and campus/community events. Oversees service-oriented activities designed to enhance student participation, good citizenship, success, and retention.

Full-time, live-in residence hall staff member supervising hall operations and staff members as they assist students in their adjustment and development in the residence hall. Academic year involvements include hall activities and programs, room changes, conflict resolution, discipline issues and academic and counseling referrals. In addition to summer school student housing, summer duties include the housing of small and large conference groups.

David Wirt is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with Supervisor Endorsement licensed through the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board. David earned his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from The Ohio State University in 1990 and his Master's Degree in Education/Counseling from the University of Dayton in 1996. He has worked both in Social Work and Counseling as a therapist since 1995, using an eclectic approach to counseling to help identify individual needs and create helpful approaches to change. David enjoys the challenges of helping people with many issues including, but not limited to, Depression, Anxiety, Stress, PTSD, OCD, Adjustment Disorders, Grief and Loss issues, Divorce, and Blending Families.

Personal counseling provides confidential counseling services, free of charge to students of The Ohio State University at Newark and Central Ohio Technical College.  Counseling provides a safe and accepting setting in which personal concerns and possible solutions can be explored. Counseling can aid in efforts to make life choices or changes, or to reach important personal goals.

The Learning Skills Specialist provides free programs and services designed to help students sharpen the skills necessary to succeed in college. The Specialist provides learning and study skills assessments and student consultations on an individual or group basis. These meeetings provide opportunities for students to understand their individual learning styles and find learning strategies that will make them more efficient, effective learners. The Specialist also conducts workshops and makes classroom presentations.

Responds to inquiries from and conducts need assessments on prospective and current students upon initial contact with the Office for Disability Services. Provides academic, vocational, and personal counseling to and referrals for students with disabilities. Also, serves as liaison with other personnel, including but not limited to: Study skills specialist, tutoring center coordinator, testing center coordinator, staff mental health counselor/ADHD coach, Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation and Bureau of Services for the Visually Impaired.

Coordinates all aspects of the Testing Center, including providing make-up testing for faculty of Central Ohio Technical College and Ohio State University at Newark, all placement and proficiency testing, COTC program selection testing, special accommodated testing for students with documented disabilities, including providing students with a reader and/or scribe.  Community service testing needs are also provided for students taking online classes at other colleges/universities. Supervises several student employees who assist with monitoring daily testing needs.

The Warner Library and Student Center, Room 211, is the hub of tutoring activity on campus. Students at The Ohio State University at Newark and Central Ohio Technical College learn from tutors about how to be more successful in class. Tutors share information about course content as well as teach their tutee how to study for certain types of tests.
Over the years, the Tutoring Program has become one of the most popular student centered programs on the Newark campus. Hundreds of students have been employed as Peer Tutors and thousands more have received free tutoring.

Works in conjunction with the Assistant Director of Student Life to provide service to student organizations; handles web updates for Student Life; responsible for record keeping of department budget accounts; supervises student employees; handles travel arrangements for intercollegiate teams; and manages schedule and reservations for the campus bus.
