Housing

Living on campus is one of the best ways to get the most from your education and to enhance your college experience.

On-campus housing

Ohio State Newark provides on-campus housing to limit the stress of starting college and to create a link between the academic, social, and recreational lives of our students. It is easy to make yourself at home in our residence halls, which offer an independent style of living just steps from class. The hall provides fully furnished kitchens, living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms. Each building is air conditioned and comes complete with laundry facilities.

Your campus residence puts you in the middle of everything happening on the Newark campus. You and your neighbors may decide to take in one of many local attractions or possibly take a surprise spur-of-the-moment road trip. Maybe you'll challenge the students next door to a pick-up basketball game or play in one of the intramural leagues. You could take advantage of the scenic bike path that winds through Newark and is right outside your back door or just enjoy a picnic on a peaceful evening.

Academic-year housing

All housing at Ohio State Newark is academic-year housing. Academic-year housing allows students to remain living in a residence hall or apartment between autumn and spring semesters and during spring break. There is a $125 fee for this convenience.

Housing rates

Housing rates are associated with each cohort in the Ohio State Tuition Guarantee. If you are an in-state student eligible for the Tuition Guarantee, housing rates will remain consistent for four years. Students living on campus should expect the following fees:

  • Room rate
  • Dining plan
  • Hall Council Program ($20/semester)

McConnell Hall is a traditional-style dormitory with 120 student beds. The building features multiple student lounges, a kitchen, laundry area and a 300-person event space. Outside is a sand volleyball court and fire pit.

Apartments

Apartment-style housing with fully furnished suites is available for 180 students. Apartments come in two-person efficiency, two-bedroom/four-person suite, and three-bedroom/six-person suite.

Housing lottery

On-campus housing spaces are assigned by a lottery system. Housing information is sent to your Ohio State email account, so check your email regularly.

To enter the housing lottery, you must submit a contract, a $300 space reservation fee, and a $50 non-refundable housing filing fee by the deadline (late April). The lottery will be held at the end of April, and you will be notified of your status. After all available spaces have been allotted, we will continue to draw names and place students on a waitlist. Contracts received after the deadline will be added to the waitlist in the order that they are received.

Students will receive room and roommate information along with a billing statement toward the middle/end of July.

Cancellations

Once you have accepted a space on campus, the deadline to cancel your housing contract and receive a 50% refund of your space reservation fee ($150) is June 1.  There will be no refund of your space reservation fee given after the June 1 deadline.

Waitlist

As we receive cancellations, we offer space to students on the waitlist. If space becomes available for you, we will notify you via email and/or phone.

If you have not been offered a space on campus and would like to remove yourself from the waitlist, you are eligible for a refund of your space reservation fee ($300).  Please contact Housing and Residence Education to request to remove yourself from the waitlist.

If a space becomes available to you prior to the residence hall opening, and you choose to decline the offer, you will not receive a refund. It is very important that you inform us in writing as soon as possible that you would like to be taken off the waitlist.

If you are still on the waitlist and are not offered a space by move-in day, you will receive a full refund of the space reservation and filing fees ($350).

Accommodations

Students requesting modifications to their housing as an accommodation for a disability should contact Student Life Disability Services.

Off-campus housing

Many students choose to live in off-campus apartments. There are several apartment complexes in the Newark area. The university does not broker arrangements between tenants and landlords for off-campus housing. We highly recommend that you contact the landlord directly to get further information regarding the unit and set up an appointment to view the place prior to committing to a place.

Roommate finder

Students who wish to share off-campus housing with another student may complete the roommate finder application, and we will do our best to assist you in finding a roommate.
