Appointments

Low, John L., has been elected to the Board of Trustees for the Chicago History Museum for a four-year term. Low, an enrolled citizen of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, is the first American Indian to be invited to serve on the board since its founding in 1856.

Lerner, Mitchell, has been elected as vice president/president-elect of the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations (SHAFR). He takes office on Nov. 1 and will serve a one-year term as vice president before ascending to the presidency in November 2023.

Toth, Lucille, has been accepted as one of the mentors for the 2022-23 Global Arts + Humanities Discovery Theme's Imagined Future Community of Practice. Her appointment begins on Nov. 1, 2022, and ends on Aug. 15, 2023.

Weiser, Elizabeth was re-elected as the only American to a three-year term on the Executive Board of the International Committee for Museology (ICOFOM), a unit of the 45,000-member International Council of Museums, based in Paris, France. In that role she will serve as managing editor for ICOFOM publications, producing its biannual journals, conference proceedings, and several monographs.

Stamatikos, Michael, selected as the OSU Community Engaged Scholar for October 2021 by OSU Outreach and Engagement. Michael Stamatikos’ long-standing strategic collaboration in fast-paced astrophysical research with the National Science Foundation’s IceCube Observatory and NASA’s Swift/Fermi satellite missions has allowed him to participate in major scientific discoveries, while providing undergraduate students access to advanced research in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). This aligns well with his efforts toward improving the professional development of educators, K-16 student success, science advocacy and community engagement.

Jungers, Melissa K. (Nov. 2017). Awarded the ACE sponsored Leadership Program Scholarship by ACE Women's Network Ohio. This award offers support for participation in the American Council on Education's Leadership programs including the National and Regional Leadership Forums and the Spectrum Aspiring and Executive Leadership Programs. The programs are intended for women administrators who aspire to senior-level posts in higher education.

Dogan Ekici, Ozlem – received a $5708 grant from the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh. The grant will be used towards the purchase of a fluorescence/absorbance plate reader with matching funds from OSU Newark and additional funds from Professor Christopher Hadad from the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry. The new plate reader will allow Newark students to do biochemical research as well as fluorescence/absorbance based experiments for their course work.

Stamatikos, Michael. Principal Investigator of an external astrophysics research proposal: “Spectral Variation Studies of Gamma-Ray Bursts” submitted to the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics (IGPP) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and selected (Grant #: 216800-3) for a total funding amount of $150k from FY14 to FY16, via the Department of Energy (DOE). The funding will support my astrophysical research related to the GRB Temporal Analysis Consortium (GTAC), a team of scientists that I commissioned while an OSU-CCAPP Fellow with external NASA funding, via the analysis of multi-instrument data sets. The research objectives address a subset of GTAC key projects that are based upon a systematic determination of GRB variability timescales and spectral lags, which leverage the time sensitive scientific synergy between satellite mission such as Swift and Fermi, with implications for revealing some mechanisms associated with the creation of black holes.
