Business Learning Community

The Business Learning Community (BLC) is for first-year students at Ohio State Newark who have declared a major in business, such as accounting, finance, marketing, logistics, entrepreneurship or management.

Is the Business Learning Community for you?

The BLC is ideal for students who want to strengthen leadership abilities, jump-start their business major and begin building their professional identity from day one.

Benefits include: 

  • A small cohort that connects you with other business majors and faculty and staff mentors
  • A $400 scholarship to cover course materials and supplies during your first year
  • Strong connection to your business major and career through Fisher College of Business, resulting in increased persistence in major
  • Priority access to required math and/or business courses(s) in first year
  • A competitive edge for internships
  • Support for the transition to the Columbus campus if that is your plan
  • Experiential learning trips connecting the business major to hands-on exciting opportunities

Eligibility

You are eligible to participate if you:

  • are a first-year student at Ohio State Newark
  • declare a major in business, such as accounting, finance, marketing, logistics, entrepreneurship or management.
  • place into level S or R (Precollege Mathematics II or College Algebra) on the Ohio State Math Placement Test or use incoming AP/IB/CCP credit
