Testing Center student information

Before you schedule online

It is your responsibility to contact your instructor and to request that your test be provided to the testing center. After you receive an email confirmation of your appointment, you must forward this information to your instructor. If you do not receive an email confirmation of your appointment, you must contact the testing center right away, as it is possible your attempt to schedule an appointment was not successful.

It also is your responsibility to review all the information on this page, so you will be informed well and your testing session itself will go well.

In any situation where accommodations designated by Student Life Disability Services stipulate a practice contrary to the guidelines below, the accommodations will supersede the guidelines. Otherwise, any practice contrary to these guidelines must be considered an exception to the rule and must be agreed upon by the testing center staff and the instructor in advance of the student beginning the test.

Scheduling

Know how long your exam is and schedule the proper amount of time for your appointment. If you have extended time as an accommodation, make sure to calculate how this impacts the time you need to schedule. Use this free, online extra time calculator to calculate the exam length with accommodations.

Contact your instructor BEFORE you make an appointment to communicate with them when you would like to schedule a testing appointment.

Schedule a session at least 48 hours in advance using RegisterBlast. If you want to schedule a testing appointment for a Monday, the latest time by which you must complete your scheduling is 3 p.m. on the preceding Friday. Schedule a session at least 72 hours in advance if you have an accommodation such as reader/scribe (authorized by Student Life Disability Services).

Contact your instructor AFTER you make an appointment by forwarding to them the email confirmation you receive from RegisterBlast. This communication will be the only way your instructor will receive important details about your appointment. If you do not receive an email confirmation for your appointment, you must contact the testing center right away, as it is possible your attempt to schedule an appointment was not successful.

Before you show up

If you are not able to attend your appointment on time, you must contact the Testing Center to inform us that you will be late (phone: 740-366-9417). If you are more than 15 minutes late for your appointment and you have not contacted us, you will be asked to reschedule.

If you are not able to attend your appointment at all, you must contact the Testing Center to cancel or to reschedule (phone: 740-366-9417). Do not make more than one appointment for the same test.

After three no-shows for scheduled test appointments during any given semester:

  • a student without accommodations may be required to meet with staff in the Testing Center office before they schedule their next test appointment.
  • a student with accommodations identified by Student Life Disability Services (SLDS) may be required to meet with staff in the SLDS office before they schedule their next test appointment.

You must present a valid photo ID at the time of your test (for example: driver's license, state ID, passport, school ID). The only digital ID which is acceptable is BuckID. Your ID name must match the name you used when scheduling your test. If it does not match, you will not be able to take your test. If you do not have a driver’s license, the state of Ohio provides state ID cards for free.

Your actual appointment

If we do not have a test for you, you may be asked to reschedule.

Abide by the Student Code of Conduct at all times.

As soon as a student violates testing center policy, the administration of the test will stop immediately and the student will need to leave the Testing Center. In cases when a student has been caught cheating on a test, a report will be written and a copy will be sent to the instructor and to the appropriate dean(s).

No personal electronic device may be brought into and used in the testing area, including a smart phone, a smart watch, a laptop computer, an iPad, etc.

If a test itself is administered online (for example, in Carmen), a student must take the test on a testing center computer (except for courses with programs which may not be on our testing center computers).

Guidelines for use of open textbook include:

  1. If a hard copy of a textbook is to be accessed, a student must show the textbook to the testing center staff before they begin the test.
  2. If a textbook is to be accessed online, a student must access the textbook on a testing center computer.
  3. In such cases, students will need to schedule their test as a computer test and we may use a lockdown browser to ensure test security.

Guidelines for use of open notes include:

  1. If notes are to be accessed as printed or handwritten, maximum permitted will be one page double-sided (standard letter size). The student must submit these notes with their completed exam, which will be retained by the testing center. If a student desires to retain a copy of their notes, they must make their own copy before coming to the testing center.
  2. If notes are to be accessed online, a student must access notes on a testing center computer. No other electronic device is permitted in the testing area. In such cases, students will need to schedule their test as a computer test and we may use a lockdown browser to ensure test security.
  3. If notes are to be accessed electronically in a program which the testing center does not have (i.e. Notability), these notes will need to be downloaded and printed prior to the testing appointment and must follow the same guidelines as other printed notes: Maximum permitted will be one page double-sided (standard letter size).

Bring your own writing utensil and, if needed, a calculator.

Tests will be collected 30 minutes before the testing center office closes on any given day.

During the days final exams are administered in classrooms, only final exams for students with testing accommodations identified through Student Life Disability Services may be scheduled in the testing center.
