CIVICLL 2120: American Civic Traditions
New class for spring 2026!
This class surveys the development of the American civic tradition, focusing on Alexis de Tocqueville's classic study "Democracy in America," in conversation with humanists, social scientists, and public policy practitioners who engaged key concepts from Tocqueville's work at different stages of American history. English 3364: Special Topics in Popular Culture Humor from Mark Twain to TikTok
Learn how humor reflects society, challenges norms, and unites and divides. This class focuses on short-form texts through stories, poems, songs, jokes, stand-up comedy routines, memes/visuals, and videos. By studying both classic and modern humorists such as Mark Twain, Dorothy Parker, Bo Burnham, and Key & Peele, we will learn how humor has changed over time and pushed boundaries.GE credit: Foundations – Historical and Cultural Studies
