Academy Program

Admission criteria

There are two ways to qualify for admission to The Academy at Ohio State Newark. 

1. Test-free (typically a student who is currently a high school sophomore or junior falls into this category):
   1. 3.0 unweighted cumulative high school GPA
   2. two years of passing high school English
   3. two years of passing high school math
2. Test-based (typically a student who is currently a high school freshman or younger falls into this category):
   1. Students who do not meet all three of the above "test-free" criteria will need to submit supplemental test scores with their application.   

How to apply

A completed application includes:

• Online application completed by student
• High School Information Form completed by school counselor and emailed to ccpdocs@osu.edu
• Official transcript/mid-year grades emailed from school counselor to ccpdocs@osu.edu 
  • If previous CCP credit was received from any college or university prior to applying to The Academy at Ohio State Newark, you must contact the registrar of the college(s) in which you received the CCP credit from and have their registrar email your college transcript to ccpdocs@osu.edu.
• Mature Content Permission Slip completed by both the student and their parent/guardian and emailed from student to ccpdocs@osu.edu
• Test-based applications only: Submit one passing set of scores from either the Accuplacer, ACT or SAT to supplement your application

Transfer Credit

Course credit will transfer to Ohio State if the course was taken at a regionally accredited institution, the course was non-remedial, and you received a C- or better. In a few cases, a D or D+ may be transferred.

Academic offerings and pathways

CCP+3 Pathways

Academy students at Ohio State Newark get the chance to take university-level courses and start earning up to one full year of Ohio State credits before graduating high school. Any of these CCP+3 Pathways can be started/pursued through Ohio State Newark’s CCP program:

• Business management: pathways included for students coming in with or without calculus credit
• Education: pathways included for those pursuing primary education (P-5), middle childhood education, and dual license in primary education and intervention specialist (P-5)
• Social work: introductory and first-year coursework establishes the foundational knowledge for the program

Additional Pathways

Further 15-credit hour and 30-credit hour pathway options can be started/pursued through Ohio State Newark’s Academy Program:    

• Non-STEM majors (includes exploration/undecided): art/music/film, English, graphic design, history, psychology, etc.
• STEM-focused majors (includes exploration/undecided, pre-med, pre-vet, pre-pharm, etc.): architecture, animal science, aviation, biology, engineering (14 areas), psychology, zoology, etc.
• Engineering technology (exclusively at regional campuses): pathways included for students coming in with or without calculus credit.
• Pre-health professional majors (includes exploration/undecided; excludes pre-Med, pre-Vet, pre-pharm, etc.): nursing, radiology/sonography, medical laboratory sciences, etc.
