Message from Dean/Director MacDonald and COTC President Bonnie L. Coe - Parking and Traffic Issues

August 24, 2018

Students,

Autumn semester has started with great enthusiasm and energy on campus. We thank you all for being here! Over the first three days we have noticed and experienced your pains with parking and traffic in and around campus during peak hours. We are working on both immediate and long-term solutions to help you access the campus.

Additional Parking Lot at Rotary Park

There are more than 100 parking spots at Rotary Park, adjacent to campus on Sharon Valley Road (see map above). Campus is easily accessible via a walking path outlined in the map. In addition to plentiful parking, there is less traffic getting in and out of this lot.

High Efficiency Parking Rules Suspended
There are six parking spots designated for high efficiency vehicles in Lot H (across from the Warner Center). Until further notice, this requirement is waived. Any vehicle may be parked in these spots.

Additional Spots to Be Added Saturday
Additional student parking spaces will be created this weekend in Lot B (Hopewell Hall), Lot F (LeFevre Hall) and Lot J (North Classroom). Please do not park in the grass or in reserved faculty and staff parking spots that are identified by yellow lines. Parking tickets will be issued to vehicle owners who fail to clearly display the appropriate parking pass.

Exiting Campus
Exiting the campus on Granville Road or Sharon Valley Road will ease the backup that occurs in Lots A-E (near Founders Hall and Hopewell Hall).
From Granville Road, turn right to get to Country Club Drive. A left turn will take you to 21st Street. Route 16 is accessible from either direction.

Additionally, there is an exit north of the residence halls to Sharon Valley Road that is rarely used. Taking the first exit from the roundabout will lead you toward Granville Road. From there you can access 21st Street. Take the third exit to get to Country Club Drive. Route 16 is accessible from either direction.

The faculty, staff and leadership of The Ohio State University at Newark and Central Ohio Technical College are excited to have you on our campus. We are exploring additional long-term solutions to address parking. For now, please use the tips above and contact the Office of Public Safety at 740-366-9237 or stop in Warner Center room 105 for questions or concerns.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation,
