April marks William Shakespeare’s 455th birthday. Join the chorus at The Ohio State University at Newark for a spring concert entitled “Shakespeare in Song” on Friday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m. Musical selections from the time of Shakespeare, music set to Shakespearean texts, and music inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet will be performed.
Selections will range from early English selections by Ravenscroft, Morley and Weelkes to more contemporary settings, including a medley from West Side Story, Three Madrigals by Emma Lou Diemer, three songs from As You Like It by Edward Green, and selections by John Purifoy and Michael Gray.
The concert will be held in Founders Hall Auditorium, 1179 University Drive, Ohio State Newark campus and is free and open to the public.
The University Chorus is directed by Professor of Music Education Paul D. Sanders and accompanied by pianist Jacqueline K. Dawson.
