Ohio State Newark Students Benefit from Emergency Grants

March 30, 2020

Buckeyes have a long, proud history of paying forward. Right now, The Ohio State University at Newark students have many immediate, unexpected needs as a result of these unprecedented times. For those that can pay forward, we welcome donations to support the availability of emergency grants for students.

The lives of students have been disrupted time and again in the last two weeks. Ohio colleges and universities were asked to move to remote learning and one-by-one businesses were forced to close their doors and send employees home until all but the essential operations remained as public health orders were issued to slow the foothold of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the state. In the middle of that, central Ohio was hit with flash flooding that dissolved entire roadways and forced evacuations in Licking County.

An emergency grant allows for students with unusual and unexpected temporary emergencies to receive financial assistance. Recently, Ohio State Newark students impacted by illness and by flooding have been awarded emergency grants. As the coronavirus pandemic continues, students will need help with housing issues, losses of income, food insecurity, travel expenses, a lack of access to resources needed for online education and other financial challenges.
