Psychology Student Lindsey Rike Places First at the Denman Research Forum

NEWARK, Ohio, April 15, 2015 — Ohio State Newark psychology student Lindsey Rike placed first at the prestigious 20th annual Denman Research Forum.

"I was certainly excited and surprised to win first place at the Denman Research Forum,” Rike said, “There are so many accomplished students presenting great research in Psychology, which made this very unexpected!”

Rike’s research presentation, The cross-domain priming of language and motor rate, builds upon previous research indicating a possible connection between language, visual and musical domains suggesting domain-general processing of temporal information.

“The research I presented is my thesis project that I've worked on with Dr. Hupp and Dr. Jungers. Upon recently completing my thesis project, it's extremely gratifying and flattering to see all the work that went into this project paying off,” Rike said.

Her advisors and faculty sponsors for the research were Melissa K. Jungers, Ph.D. and Julie M. Hupp, Ph.D. “I know that the competition at the Denman is fierce, so this is an incredible achievement,” Hupp said, “Lindsey has been a model Psychology student by excelling in the classroom, taking leadership roles in student organizations, and actively engaging in research early on in her undergraduate studies.”

Rike added, “I'm extremely grateful that my Psychology professors got me involved in research; I wouldn't have the fulfilling educational experience that I do now without that."

The Denman Undergraduate Research Forum, now in its 20th year, is coordinated by the Undergraduate Research Office and supported by the Office of Research, the Office of Undergraduate Education, Mr. and Mrs. Denman-long-time members of the Ohio State University community and other corporate and private donors. The Forum is an opportunity to showcase outstanding student research, scholarship, and creative activity and encourage all undergraduates to participate in these activities to enrich their undergraduate education.
