White Presented with Distinguished Staff Award
May 29, 2015—Newark, Ohio—Jamie White, assistant to the associate dean at The Ohio State University at Newark, was presented with the 2015 Distinguished Staff Award. Each year, The Ohio State University honors 12 staff members for their exceptional accomplishments, leadership and service to the university. All part-time and full-time non-faculty staff with at least five years of continuous service at Ohio State from any campus may be nominated. Honorees receive a monetary award, salary increase and a crystal trophy.
White has been the assistant to the associate dean at Ohio State Newark for over eight years. During that time, she has become a trusted asset to the university, the faculty and staff, the students and the community. White’s professionalism and dedication embodies the values of Ohio State.
“I have always been impressed by Jamie’s talent and professionalism,” said Melissa Jungers, associate dean and associate professor of psychology at Ohio State Newark, “Now that I work with her every day, I am even more amazed by her communication skills, her leadership and her ability to make every person feel valued. Jamie enhances the quality of work life for her colleagues. She is a talented professional who is always willing to go the extra step to help others.”
The office of the associate dean hires all part-time and full-time lectures for the Newark campus. One of the job duties of the assistant to the associate dean is to create contracts for each lecturer and walk them through an orientation. Jamie goes above and beyond by meeting with lecturers individually, and explaining how things work on campus, including setting up a campus tour. She contacts the information technology department so that each new lecturer has access to Newark computers. “What makes Jamie’s work so exceptional is that every person who is in contact with our office, whether faculty, staff, students or community members, receives this same level of professional knowledge and friendliness,” said Jungers.
Along with her job duties, Jamie helped create the “Work-a-Joylics.” This committee of volunteers create and implement activities for staff members in Admissions, Academics Advising, Records, and the associate dean’s offices and their families. The goal of this committee is to demonstrate the values of collaboration, community service and positive workplace relationships. Jamie is no stranger to community service. She has led some very big community service projects over the holiday season. This included coordinating activities, time, staff coverage and budgetary needs.
