Determination Drives Ohio State Newark Student to West Point

Autumn officially began on Sept. 22, but classes are well underway for students across the nation. By now, most college freshman have found their routine and settled into their new life. For one Utica High School graduate and former College Credit Plus student at The Ohio State University at Newark, that meant learning how to line up in formation, salute and stand at attention. Rachel Orr is on her way to becoming an army officer at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York.

Tackling that question are three mathematical researchers from across the country. One of them is Niles Johnson, associate professor of mathematics at The Ohio State University at Newark.
A World Away: Ohio State Newark Students Explore Education and More in Indonesia

A three and a half week immersion in the Indonesian education system and culture gave four students an idea of the global options they have after graduation. They were among a group that included ten students from the Columbus campus who participated in the Indonesia: First Education Experience Program (FEEP) that offered them the opportunities to work with diverse groups of children and get a better understanding of an international education system.

Hessler to Discuss Dyslexia Education

Terri Hessler, Ph.D., associate professor of special education at The Ohio State University at Newark is a dyslexia intervention specialist, and one of only six people in the nation credentialed to train teachers to implement dyslexia intervention as a whole-classroom instruction. She will discuss these techniques and more at an upcoming Faculty Talks Outside the Box lecture.
