Engineering Students can begin their Degree at Ohio State Newark

NEWARK, Ohio, March 8, 2016 – Students who want to be an engineering major at The Ohio State University can start their degree on the Newark campus. The Ohio State University at Newark provides access to the number one ranked engineering program in the state. Students can be an engineering major on any of Ohio State’s regional campuses and then transition to Columbus after their first or second year.

Students can participate in an Engineering Learning Community while at Ohio State Newark. The Engineering Learning Community offers social and academic support for students, while also providing an opportunity to engage in career-focused experiential learning activities. These opportunities allow students to make connections with engineering professionals in their first semester and see the innovative work they are doing in the field.

There are many benefits to taking part in the Engineering Learning Community. Students get faculty support, have peer mentors, connect with engineering professionals, participate in planned social and cultural events throughout the year, take career-based field trips, take classes together as a cohort, are given priority consideration for Newark campus residence hall housing, and form great friendships.

Students who become engineering majors on a regional campus take the same courses as their counterparts in Columbus and begin their engineering coursework in their first year. The class sizes at Ohio State Newark are smaller, providing more individual attention for the student. Tuition is 30 percent lower than on the Columbus campus. Students can transition to Columbus after their first or second year. Approximately 125 engineering students per year transition from regional campuses to Columbus.
