The Ohio State University at Newark sophomores Kylie Doon, of Worthington, and Justin Ray, of Bristol, Tennessee, were named Ohio State Newark’s Homecoming royalty on Friday, Sept. 30, during a ceremony at the Longaberger Alumni House on Ohio State’s Columbus campus.

Doon is an academic peer coach for the Engineering Learning Community, participates in the Allied Health Society Club and Campus Activities Board student organizations, and served as a student ambassador over the summer.

“Being a Buckeye means stepping outside of your comfort zone in order to pursue your dreams and having people alongside you throughout the process. The chance to meet diverse people and see new perspectives that bring learning to life,” she said. “Being a first-generation Buckeye student, it means knowing that I can do anything I set my mind to because of the environment that Ohio State brings.”

Ray is a member of the Campus Activities Board and a student ambassador. He said that being a Buckeye means tradition, family and respect. “To be a part of a lifelong alumni network,” he added, “and being able to say ‘O-H’ just about anywhere in the world and get an ‘I-O’ back.”

Following the crowning ceremony, students participated with their Columbus and regional campus counterparts in the Ohio State Homecoming parade, which is one of Ohio State's biggest and longest-running traditions, and the Homecoming pep rally, sponsored by The Ohio State University Alumni Association and the Student-Alumni Council. On Saturday, students took part in the Ohio State Marching Band Skull Session at St. John's Arena and attended and celebrated the victory of the Ohio State versus Rutgers Homecoming game in Ohio Stadium.
