Story

Set in 1912 England, in the fictional industrial town of Brumley, the play revolves around the wealthy Birling family. During an engagement celebration, the intimate party is interrupted by the arrival of Inspector Goole. He is investigating the suicide of a young working-class woman, Eva Smith. As his questions probe deeper, each family member's interconnected and often callous involvement in her tragic fate is revealed. The play explores themes of social responsibility, class inequality and moral hypocrisy.
