What is Psi Chi?
Psi Chi is the National Honor Society in Psychology, founded in 1929 for the purposes of encouraging, stimulating and maintaining excellence in scholarship, and advancing the science of psychology. Membership is open to graduate and undergraduate students who are making the study of psychology one of their major interests, and who meet the minimum qualifications. Psi Chi is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is an affiliate of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the American Psychological Society (APS).
Eligibility
Eligibility for Newark campus undergraduates includes:
- completion of 3 semesters of college courses
- completion of 9 semester hours of psychology courses
- ranking in the top 35% of their class in general scholarship
- have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in both psychology classes and cumulative grade
About Psi Chi at Ohio State Newark
The following are some key points to remember about Psi Chi at Newark:
- Applications are available in the Psychology Lab (Newark A1100). You may also ask the lab receptionist for an application.
- There is no fee to apply. However, upon acceptance, there is a $75 fee that includes your membership to the national organization as well as our local chapter, your certificate, pin and honor cords.
- Membership drives will be held autumn semester each year.
- GPA requirements vary from year to year because the top 35% rankings in GPA change from year to year.
