Sandra Soto-Cabán
Professor
Originally from Puerto Rico, Sandra Soto-Cabán, PhD, has spent most of her professional career as a college professor in electrical engineering. A first-generation college student, she earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez, followed by a PhD in electrical engineering from Michigan State University.
In 2008, she joined Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio, as the first engineering faculty member of the newly established engineering science program. While there, she taught a range of engineering courses and conducted research in electromagnetics and engineering education.
Soto-Cabán currently serves as a professor of professional practice in electrical and computer engineering at The Ohio State University and as faculty in engineering technology at Ohio State Newark. She joined Ohio State in August 2022 as an associate professor of practice and program coordinator of the Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (BSET), playing a key role in launching and developing the program at Newark.
As a member of an underrepresented group in her field, Soto-Cabán is a strong advocate for increasing women’s participation in STEM. She is a senior member of IEEE, a member of ASEE and belongs to the Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu engineering honor societies. Her research interests include electromagnetic simulation of underground contaminants, material characterization and engineering education.
