Academic Programming Initiative

Ohio State Newark offers rigorous academic programming devoted to excellence and designed to meet Ohio’s educational needs. We plan to increase the flexibility of our course schedule and add courses that make it easier for students to pursue degrees in STEM fields. We also plan to broaden the range of enriched learning opportunities.

Expand availability of courses

  • Make better use of enrollment projections to schedule lower-level math and English courses
  • Add more second-year courses in the sciences and in engineering to help students get into their intended majors after they change to the Columbus campus
  • Work with OAA and the professional colleges that have undergraduate programs to explore offering additional second- and third-year courses

Add degree-completion programs

  • Launch the Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology in 2023
  • Explore adding solar panels to the roof of the facilities building and using the panels to create learning experiences for students in the BSET program
  • Explore extending degree programs that address Ohio’s workforce needs
  • Explore the Personalized Study Program to add degree pathways for students

Add enriching learning opportunities

  • Expand access to education abroad for underrepresented students
  • Increase participation in education abroad to non-European destinations
  • Develop courses involving the Newark Earthworks
  • Offer freshman research seminars
  • Increase internship opportunities
  • Seek support for interdisciplinary research and creative expression that result in additional research experiences for undergraduates
  • Explore collaborating with local P-12 schools in the former State Farm building
