Your First Week
Convocation & Dean’s Picnic
The official welcome for new students. The day before autumn courses begin, all new students gather in Adena Hall to begin their college career together as Buckeyes. Students hear from current students, the Dean, and other faculty and staff. The Dean’s Picnic directly follows the Convocation. Students mix, mingle and eat with their fellow classmates and members of the campus community.
Fun events all week on campus to help you relax, get to know your fellow classmates and just have a good time. Events are sponsored by The Office of Student Life.
The common reading program at Ohio State Newark aims to connect first-year students through a shared learning experience. The book is designed to engage students in discussions regarding contemporary issues facing local and global communities. The book is part of our campus’s commitment to having students think critically and learn about diversity, equity and inclusion topics.
Learning communities create opportunities for students to engage and build a sense of community and professional connections. Ohio State Newark has five learning communities to bring together students with common attributes or academic goals.
