First Year Experience

Welcome New Buckeyes!

It’s all about that first year.
Ohio State Newark places special emphasis on your first year on campus. Research shows that laying a strong foundation during your first year of college is key to your success.

Our First Year Experience (FYE) programs are designed to help build that foundation as well as help you get comfortable on campus, connect with the university, and start to think of Ohio State Newark as home.

Get started. Make connections. Get answers. And have a great first year!

Your First Week

Convocation & Dean’s Picnic
The official welcome for new students. The day before autumn courses begin, all new students gather in Adena Hall to begin their college career together as Buckeyes. Students hear from current students, the Dean, and other faculty and staff. The Dean’s Picnic directly follows the Convocation. Students mix, mingle and eat with their fellow classmates and members of the campus community.

Welcome Week
Fun events all week on campus to help you relax, get to know your fellow classmates and just have a good time. Events are sponsored by The Office of Student Life.

Learning Communities

Learning communities create opportunities for students to engage and build a sense of community and professional connections. Ohio State Newark has five learning communities to bring together students with common attributes or academic goals.
