“Changes in Mental and Cognitive Health across Pre- and Post-Pandemic Samples”
Professor Melissa Buelow, PhD

During the COVID-19 pandemic, multiple stories appeared in the news about increasing rates of psychological disorders, such as anxiety and depression. In addition, several stories discussed increased difficulties in making even simple, everyday decisions. But did rates of mental and cognitive health symptoms change? This presentation examines data on self-reported rates of psychological diagnoses and performance on decision-making tasks across pre-pandemic (2011-2019) and pandemic (2020-2022) samples.

This event is free and open to the pubic. Attend in person or virtually

About this event

Story

After stumbling upon an outdoor production of a Shakespeare play in Manhattan, Long Island landscaper Bob Malone returns home inspired to write a play about his troubled marriage. He hires two reluctant New York theater professionals to spend a week at his home and stage the play in his garage, with a cast of colorful locals. The Groundling is a comedy exploring the meaning of the final moments of Shakespeare’s Loves's Labour's Lost and how the power of theater can affect the most unsuspecting, and perhaps most deserving, of us all.

Playwright: Marc Palmieri
Director: Edie L. Norlin

The play is presented through special arrangement with Dramatist Play Service.

Auditions: Open to the public

Casting requirements: Four men (one older) and three women

A two- to three-minute monologue is optional. All actors will be asked to do cold reads from the script. Scripts are available on closed reserve in the Warner Library. Actors are always encouraged to read the script before audition participation. If anyone is interested in a crew position, please contact Edie L. Norlin immediately for an interview. Crew positions go fast. All potential actors and crew are encouraged to attend one night of auditions.

Performances will be held April 5–7 and 12-14.
