Hosted by the Center for Student Success, brunch will be available for students to kick off exam week. You are encouraged to stay and visit all the academic support services in preparation for finals (Tutoring Center, Writer’s Studio and the Math Learning Center) as well as Retention & Student Success Initiatives for learning and study skill strategies. All are located on the second floor of the Warner Center.  Librarians will be on hand to assist students with final projects as well.

"Courage is Love" presented by Laurent Che, guest speaker/poet

Our speaker/poet will combine his presentation with the spoken word highlighting the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King. Followed by a deep dive into how we as people can find the courage to love one another even with our differences. Ending with a fireside chat allowing attendees to express challenges they have faced that makes loving each other difficult in a modern world without Dr. King.

About this event

During this time of year, many Americans partake in traditions that involve preconceptions and idealized versions of our relationship with American Indians. Yet current tribal members continue to deal with a reality that is connected to the past, and the impact involving many rights and representations in the U.S. today. 

Please join us for this session, as we discuss current issues that impact the rights and life outcomes of Indigenous Americans. This presentation will include misconceptions, intergroup relationships, issues relating to representation, voting rights, and health outcomes. Additionally, we will discuss the dynamics and effects of tribal sovereignty and portrayal and use of mascots. 

Presented by the Student Engagement Team (SET) which is comprised of faculty, staff, and students with special presenter, John Low, PhD.

About this event

In this Faculty Talks Outside the Box, Assistant Professor Chris Taylor discusses his most recent series of paintings entitled "Stage," which will be exhibited at the Sean Christopher Gallery in Columbus in the summer of 2024. The 12 abstract, multi-panel pieces in this series challenge our understanding of pictorial space and deconstruct the figure/ground and image/object relationship that defines much of Western painting.
